As we know, Xiaomi regularly releases new software update (currently, Global stable MIUI 8 ROM) for its devices. Each update will offer new features, bug fixes, optimizations and security patches. All these updates will be rolled out via OTA (over the air), but it will take several days or weeks to get across devices. However, tech-minded owners of Xiaomi smartphone can install the MIUI ROM manually via recovery or fastboot.
In this guide, we show you how to install MIUI 8 ROM on any Redmi or Mi phones manually. The guide covers both recovery method and fastboot method. Both methods are rather simple, but it requires some precautions. For example, you should download correct MIUI firmware file for your device. Also, it will erase your phone data (in fastboot method), so need to make a backup before proceeding.
Now, you might want to know what the differences between MIUI recovery ROM and MIUI Fastboot ROM. For installing recovery ROM, your device should be on stock MIUI ROM and stock recovery. If your device is rooted or installed TWRP recovery or runs on a custom ROM, you can use Fastboot ROM.

How to Install MIUI 8 Global ROM on Xiaomi Devices
Note: Make sure your device running on the latest stable version MIUI ROM.
Step 1: Download MIUI 8 Recovery ROM for you device [HERE] and save it on your device.
Step 2: Launch ‘Updater’ app on your device.
Step 3: Tap on menu (… icon at the top right corner) and then select the ‘Choose update package‘.
Step 4: Your phone will start installing the firmware. Once done, your device will reboot to latest MIUI version.
Note: Enable ‘USB Debugging’ on your phone (You can see it in the Developer Options menu. To enable Developer Options, tap build number 7 times). Also, your device bootloader should be unlocked (to unlock bootloader, go here)
Step 1: Download Mi Flash Tool [HERE], unzip it and install it on your PC.
Step 2: Download MIUI 8 Fastboot ROM for your device [HERE]
Step 3: Boot your device into Fastboot mode (press Power + Volume Down buttons together)
Step 4: Connect your device to PC via USB cable.
Step 5: Unzip the downloaded Fastboot ROM (just double click) and copy its path.
Step 6: Open Mi-Flash tool and paste the ROM file folder path into the address bar.
Step 7: Connect your phone to your PC and click the ‘Refresh’ button on Mi-Flash tool. Your phone should automatically recognize your phone. (If not, install proper driver for your device).
Step 8: Wait for some time to complete the process. Once done, your device will boot into latest MIUI version.
